Prof. Bárbara Segal, PhD
Bárbara is a biologist graduated from the State University of Campinas, MSc and PhD at the National Museum, by the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. She worked on the implementation of the Coral Vivo Project in Southern Bahia and her research and extension projects focus on understanding and reporting the spatial and temporal dynamics of reef systems in the face of environmental factors, such as sedimentation, temperature, global climate change and other local stressors. The research and extension work that Bárbara leads and participates is focused on contributing to the management and conservation of natural areas and ecosystem services.

Marcelo Crivellaro, PhD
Marcelo is a biologist, MSc in Animal Biodiversity by the Federal University of Santa Maria and PhD in Ecology by Federal University of Santa Catarina. He has been part of the LabAR team since 2017 and his research on population ecology and predictive models of the occurrence of the invasive coral Tubastraea coccinea (sun coral) aims to contribute to its control in Santa Catarina state.

Thiago Silveira, PhD
Thiago is a biologist, MSc in Animal Biology by the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul and PhD in Zoology by the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul. Throughout his walk he's been exploring different ecological aspects involving aquatic organisms from streams, estuaries and marine environments. Thiago has been working on aquatic species distribution models and has a special interest in approaches involving technologies linked to Geographic Information Systems (GIS). He is currently a postdoctoral researcher in the Long Term Ecological Research of Brazilian Oceanic Islands project and collaborator on the project that studies the population ecology, distribution and dispersion of the invasive coral Tubastraea coccinea.

Tainá Luchese Gaspar, MSc
Oceanographer, MSc and PhD candidate in Ecology by Federal University of Santa Catarina, Tainá works at LabAR since 2018, within Long Term Ecological Research of Brazilian Oceanic Islands project. Dive instructor and mariner, she started as a grad student researching coral population health at Rocas Atoll, and her master’s project reviewed coral bleaching events at South Atlantic reefs, seeking to understand their physical drivers, such as El Niño episodes and Marine Heatwaves.

Vitor Picolotto, MSc
Vitor is an Oceanographer, MSc in Ecology and PhD candidate in Ecology by Federal University of Santa Catarina. He's been in LabAR since 2015 and is interested in functional dynamics of reef benthic communities in a world impacted by climate change. In Vitor's PhD research, associated to Coral Vivo Project, he will try to answer how traits from benthic organisms and reef functions respond to different environmental stressors, and what will happen to them in future scenarios of climate change. He is also a researcher in the Long Term Ecological Research of Brazilian Oceanic Islands project and in Ecosystem Services and Biodiversity Synthesis Center - Brazilian Reef Systems in the Anthropocene.

Júlia Alvarenga
Júlia is a biologist graduated by the Federal University of Lavras and MSc candidate in Ecology by Federal University of Santa Catarina. She is linked to LabAR since 2019, where she developed her master’s research evaluating the recovery of the native benthic community after management and removal of the invasive coral Tubastraea coccinea (sun coral) in the Marine Biological Reserve of Arvoredo. She is interested mainly in environmental education, public policy actions, scientific illustration and outreach.

Mariana Sumi
Mariana is a biologist by the Federal University of São Carlos and MSc candidate in Ecology by the Federal University of Santa Catarina. She joined LabAr in 2020 and her research aims to evaluate changes in the functional structure of Brazilian reef communities and in the use of ecosystem services associated with these environments over the past 60 years.

Manoella Biroli Nunes Bastos
Manoella is a biologist undergraduate from Federal University of Santa Catarina. She joined LabAR in 2019 participating on the Long Term Ecological Research of Brazilian Oceanic Islands project (PELD-ILOC), where she contributed by studying and comparing the temporal trends of the benthic reef communities of Rocas Atoll and Fernando de Noronha Archipelago. In addition, she got involved in social media management and scientific divulgation of PELD-ILOC and LabAR projects. Currently, she still integrates the lab as an associate researcher and works in the recreational scuba diving area. She has special interest in the monitoring, management, and conservation of marine environments.

Millenne Ohanna
Millenne is an Oceanographer graduated by the Federal University of Santa Catarina. She joined LabAR seeking to learn about the functioning of reef environments, as well as their conservation and ecosystem services. In the laboratory, she's a member of the research project "subsidies for the control of the invasive coral Tubastraea coccinea (sun coral) in the Arvoredo Marine Biological Reserve", and also collaborates with scientific outreach and social media management. In addition, Millenne is interested in topics related to climate change in reef environments.
